Listening Technology: Today and Tomorrow
(Upper Holmes Lodge)

Dave Wessell, B.A.– The technology in hearing devices is rapidly changing, providing greater access to the auditory information in the world around us.  Dave Wessell, from Phonak will share today’s current technology used in hearing aids, cochlear implants and FM systems, as well as peek into the possible path of future technology.  Dave Wessell holds a BA in Marketing from San Jose State University and is currently a Pediatric Territory Manager with Phonak covering the southwestern United States.

Session A: Audiology for Dummies (Upper Holmes Lodge)   

Linda Dye, CCC, AuDis a co-founder of D/HH Family Camp, an audiologist for San Diego Unified District and former director of CCHAT San Diego.  She will present information on basic audiology—how the ear works, understanding audiological tests—and answer your questions about hearing loss.

Session B: Connectivity in Today’s World (Lower Holmes Lodge)

Brian Winic, M.A. – Brian was born with a severe-to-profound hearing loss,  is a Rehabilitation Counselor for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, and works with D/HH students at California State University, Northridge. Brian is also a Board Member of the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunication Program for the State of California.  He will provide hands-on opportunity to see options to connect CI’s and hearing aids with other technologies like FM systems and iPods.  Brian will also discuss phones (both landlines and cell) for D/HH individuals.  Older D/HH campers will be joining us for this session.

Special Interest Groups

One of the reasons why parents come to camp is to learn from each other.  We will meet in “interest groups” to discuss what’s on your mind . . . school issues, medical challenges, or just to compare notes!
